I have the honour to acknowledge your letter of yesterday's date, inclosing copy of a letter from Lieutenant Christopher, one of the Admiralty Agents on this station, preferring certain complaints against the "Chief Clerk" for irregularities alleged to have taken place in the despatch of the Mail by the Contract Steamer "Gottinger" in the 18th ult., and calling upon me, by desire of His Excellency, the Governor, for any remarks that I might have to offer thereon.
You will be aware that, owing to circumstances already explained, the words
